Choosing the Best: Abstinence-based Education Wins!
On Tuesday night, in an astonishing, but should-not-be-surprising end, the Fort Worth ISD unanimously decided to adopt Choosing The Best curricula! Choosing The Best is an abstinence-based curricula offered to grades 6-10. According to their website, they exist to, “Educate teens on the health advantages of delayed sexual activity and empower them to make the healthiest choices, in order to reduce unplanned pregnancies and STDs, improving life outcomes for teens and their families.”
While it is a sad circumstance to have to pushback against sexualized curriculum in public schools, it brings joy to us all that wholesome content and curriculum has been adopted by the Fort Worth ISD, and we do indeed honor them for making the right decision. Though, this is not the end of the fight. There is much work to be done in public education, not just public schools, but private as well. It is our obligation and duty to ensure that education which serves the common good, and that which is virtuous, wholesome, and fact-based ought to be taught across all subjects.
Today, however, we celebrate and thank God for this victory. We also honor and recognize For Liberty & Justice’s activism team for the hard work and dedication they put into placing pressure on the Fort Worth ISD board to make the right decision. This not only goes to show how effective the team was in rallying support for this very important issue, it shows that the we the people can win!
To some, the importance of this win may not immediately sink in. As Christians and conservatives, we frequently complain about why things are the way they are—education in particular. Tuesday night’s activism demonstrated the strength of not only those who led the charge and were involved, but that our God does answer prayers and He does move mountains; in this case, that mountain being a left-leaning school board whose decisions in the past have been entirely opposite of what they decided on Tuesday night. That is huge!
We are grateful and thankful for those who took a bold stand against what culture desires, and for what God desires. We give thanks and honor to God for answering our prayers and going before us in this battle for good. Today, we take this victory as encouragement for the next battle, knowing that our God goes before us victoriously.
